About this Site

Thank you for visiting my website. I am relatively new to painting having started several years ago as I went through a divorce. Painting has been a wonderful way to relax, have fun and meet some fantastic artists who have now become close friends. I never thought I would create a website for my work; but I am motivated by something a little different. Any work that gets sold, I will donate 100% of the proceeds to the New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) www.nessf.org

I founded NESS in 2002 with a vision of enabling everyone to get out on the water, learning and having fun, regardless of financial needs or ability. The core values of inclusiveness, experiential learning, self-discovery, and stewardship remain my passion in leading NESS today. NESS teaches thousands of students annually, many of whom are on scholarship. Many inner-city underserved youth on the coastline live less than a mile from the water, but have been denied access. NESS seeks to change that and in doing so we are providing transformational life experiences. Our objective is to enhance academic achievement and allow students to acquire valuable life skills such as perseverance, communication, confidence, teamwork, and self-control. In fact, our research shows that students who take our programing are 9 times more likely to have positive changes in self-confidence than those who do not.

Art and NESS have a lot in common for me — experiencing something outside your comfort zone, and knowing that you are in a safe environment to learn and have fun. Students leave NESS with a sense of empowerment, believing that they “can.” This feeling has never been more important.

I hope you will enjoy these paintings. If you would like to purchase one, please contact me. I am also happy to paint something similar if the painting you like has been sold. The proceeds will help a NESS student take advantage of an exceptional opportunity. Thank you.

About the Artist

I am Chairman of the Board recently retired as a full-time volunteer for the Foundation serving as President & CEO. In 2021, I was named the Ocean State Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the year. I received US Sailing’s “Marty” – The Martin A. Luray Award – the organization’s highest honor for contributions to public access and community sailing in 2019. On behalf of NESS, we have also received the National Recreation Foundation’s Robert W. Crawford Achievement Prize in 2016, an award that recognizes the individual that has done the most to advance the lives of inner-city youth through recreation. I was also recognized, in 2016, by US Sailing as the Outstanding Organizational Leader of a sailing organization. Formerly the CEO of XL Capital’s non-insurance operations, I worked at JP Morgan for 27 years in various senior management capacities. I am a past Commodore of the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club where I was one of the Founding Members. I am a Former Trustee of Westminster School (Simsbury, CT), where I was Vice Chairman of the Board for nine years. I sail a 2019 Swan 48 and looking forward to cruising in Maine each summer.
